High school seniors are just now starting to hear back about admissions decisions for the 2023 fall semester. While we don't have data on the current application cycle, The Chronicle analyzed historical admissions data to see how UCLA and Berkeley have grown more competitive over time. The difference in admissions rates between the two schools is actually wider among in-state applicants. For the 2022 fall semester, Berkeley admitted 14% of California residents, while UCLA accepted 9% — a five percentage-point difference.
