UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism (Berkeley Journalism) in March will begin accepting applications to be part of the first cohort of its new California Local News Fellowship program, a $25 million multi-year, state-funded program to support and strengthen local news reporting in California. The initiative is believed to be the largest state allocation ever made in the U.S. to support local journalism. The fellowship — which will support three cohorts of up to 40 fellows each — gives early-career journalists an opportunity to spend two to three years covering California communities in need of deep, local reporting.
